Celtic Cornwall 2026 – 5 days

This reflective and inspiring journey invites us to explore Cornwall’s rich Christian heritage, walking in the footsteps of saints and uncovering the deep spiritual roots woven into this ancient land. Based in Truro, we begin with a warm welcome and the chance to gather in fellowship with our fellow pilgrims and tour leader. Our journey begins on St. Michael’s Day with a special pilgrimage to the iconic St. Michael’s Mount, where faith, history, and legend meet atop a tidal island crowned by the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. In Tintagel, we honour St. Materiana, a 5th century missionary and princess, with a visit to her historic clifftop church and a tour of the dramatic Tintagel Castle, long associated with Arthurian legend. Later, we follow in the footsteps of St. Piran, Cornwall’s patron saint of tin miners, with a visit to his ancient oratory, a walk along the Cornish Celtic Way, and time to reflect at the haunting remains of Wheal Coates tin mine. Throughout the pilgrimage, there will be time for worship, quiet reflection and meaningful encounters with Cornwall’s sacred places. This journey offers not only a deeper connection to the saints and stories of the past, but also an invitation to encounter your faith anew in the beauty, history and stillness of this beautiful coastal landscape.

Itinerary

  1. Independent travel to Truro

Make your own way to Truro with check-in from 3pm onwards at our Truro hotel. This evening meet your fellow pilgrims and tour leader for an included pre-dinner drink followed by dinner.

  2. Drive to Marazion; visit St. Michael’s Mount

Today, St. Michael’s Day, we make pilgrimage to St. Michael’s Mount where we will join in a special service at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. Afterwards, we continue our tour of the island where it is believed St. Cadoc and St. Keyne met in the 6th century. Our tour will include
the castle and the terraced gardens. After some free time to enjoy the site, we return to Marazion on foot along the ancient causeway that connects St. Michael’s Mount to the mainland and return to our hotel for dinner.

  3. Drive to St. Materiana’s; tour of Tintagel

Saint Materiana was a 5th century Welsh princess and Christian missionary. She is believed to have been the daughter of King Vortimer of Gwent and later married Prince Ynyr. After her husband’s death, she dedicated her life to Christianity, founding churches in Cornwall and Wales. This morning we visit St. Materiana’s Church in Tintagel. We join the congregation for Eucharist in this Grade I listed building dating back to the 11th century followed by a tour of the atmospheric ruins of Tintagel Castle nearby. We return to our hotel for dinner.

  4. St. Piran - Patron Saint of Tin Miners

This morning we drive to St. Piran’s Oratory, a small, ancient Christian chapel, believed to date back to the 5th of 6th century. It is associated with St. Piran, the patron saint of Tin Miners and one of the Patron Saints of Cornwall. We walk a gentle section of the Cornish Celtic Way. After lunch together, we drive to Wheal Coates to view the remains of the old tin mine there. St. Piran’s legendary discovery of how to smelt tin led him to become the Tinner’s Saint and inspired the Cornish flag - the white cross on a black background symbolises both the light of God in a dark world and the white tin metal in the dark rock. We enjoy a final farewell dinner in our hotel this evening.

  5. Check out and make our own way home

After breakfast we check out of our hotel and bid farewell to Cornwall and our fellow pilgrims.
