Summer in the Tyrol – for the traditional Maria Assumption procession
Join ever cheerful and caring Father Christopher Hancock August 10th.
I’m Father Christopher Hancock, a Mill Hill Missionary currently working at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Sunderland. I was born and brought up in Cardiff and after studying in Dublin, London and Cameroon, I was ordained in 2004. Apart from five years in Rome for further study, I’ve spent most of my priesthood in Cameroon working in different ministries including large rural parishes engaging in primary evangelisation and lecturing at the major seminary.
After a sabbatical in 2016, I worked in the Archdiocese of Cardiff at Merthyr Tydfil before coming to Sunderland at the end of 2020. I now have the privilege of leading a young and vibrant parish in the centre of Sunderland. I’m also the Catholic Chaplain to the University of Sunderland and keep myself busy with two high schools and a primary school. I also have a dog called Eric, a retired racing greyhound who does his best to keep me active.
I’m delighted to be leading this pilgrimage to the Tyrol and I’m looking forward to celebrating with you the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary among the majestic Alps by the Way of St. James with some wonderful sights.
