Join the Very Reverend Geoffrey and Hazel Marshall in Cyprus
A walking retreat fit for Aphrodite! April 15th
Reverend Geoffrey and Hazel will be hosting our Cyprus-Akamas Peninsula pilgrimage on 15th April. Join them and celebrate Orthodox Easter Sunday with the family at the Hotel Aphrodite, which has remained in the same family since 1964. The welcoming owner, Gregoria, always wished to dedicate a church to Mother Mary. So, in 2013 she had the picturesque little church built, which is perfect for our group worship opportunities. One day the family takes us to market to collect produce where we then join with local families in a Cypriot cooking class and together enjoy the fruits of our labour and share with our new-found community.
Reverend Geoffrey and Hazel have led many tours for McCabe and are much thought of by our guests…and a short message from them…
From before being a curate in Hertfordshire to long after retiring as Dean of Brecon Cathedral, I’ve been accompanying pilgrims to the lands of the Bible. Above all I go to a place like Cyprus to meet the “Living Stones” – the people whose families have been Christian since the 40s AD. I want my friends to see, hear, taste, touch and smell things which are already half familiar (from Sunday School and TV programmes) and yet also half a surprise; my pleasure is in seeing them realise these things.
Why Cyprus? Acts chapter 13 tells of Paul’s first missionary journey which took him right through the island where his colleague Barnabas was born and later martyred. Cyprus became the first country in the world to have a Christian ruler in the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus, who governed from Paphos, the ancient capital 25 miles from our hotel.
