Fundraising Summer Concert

Concert in Aid of McCabe Educational Trust by the choir of Girton College, Cambridge.

Sunday 15 July 6pm at St Luke’s Chelsea, SW3 6NH

This summer the Chapel Choir of Girton College, Cambridge (conducted by Christ Church Director of Music, Gareth Wilson) is delighted to be joining up with the McCabe Educational Trust to go to Israel and Palestine in July.

The choir of 24 singers, accompanied by historic brass instruments from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama are looking forward to performing at Christ Church Nazareth, Tabgha Monastery, Bethlehem University, the Church of the Redeemer, St Anne ‘s, Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem  and St Catherine’s Monastery in Bethlehem. Additionally, they will visit the Jordan River Baptismal Site, the Separation Wall, Aida Refugee Camp, Al-Shurooq School for the Blind, the Bethlehem Arab Rehabilitation Centre and the Jeel Al Amal Boys’ Home in Bethany in what is hoped will be a musical and cultural eye-opener of a trip for the choir.

As is becoming tradition, they will then return to England to record their third CD in three years, but will round off the experience by giving a concert in aid of the McCabe Educational Trust in St Luke’s at 6pm on the 15th of July. Links between Girton and the parish of St Luke’s and Christ Church have become strong over the past three years, with many former Girtonians now singing at Christ Church on a regular basis, but it is hoped that this trip with the MET will deepen the relationship yet further.

The concert promises to be a wonderful celebration of this and, if you have enjoyed the occasional outings for choir and brass at Christ Church (or at the concert for Cadogan last March) over the past couple of years, you will love this.
