From Jeel Al Amal in Bethany

Every summer MET co-operates with a charity called UNIPAL to bring a team of UK volunteers to facilitate a Summer School at Jeel. This year it was not possible to obtain insurance for the UK volunteers, so instead Unipal sent extra funding to Najwa, to not only support the children through the summer, but to enable an alternative project.

Jeel is the only school in Bethany that keeps its doors open during summer, as there are at present thirty boys with absolutely nowhere else to go. The children were organised into three teams, rotating activities during the day taking part in art, music, silent games and sports.

Sadly trips out were not advisable because of the current political situation. A highlight was an environmental day when volunteers from the local Lions club helped the children plant shrubs throughout the school compound.
