Dr Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong

MET maintains the McCabe family connection in India with our support of Dr Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong, high in the Himalayan foothills. Alistair was born here when his father was the farm manager.

The school was founded by a Scottish missionary over 100 years ago and has evolved from being a safe haven for abandoned Anglo-Indian children from the days of the Raj, to a modern boarding school. The campus is original and a wonderful place to visit—as do many McCabe travellers when they visit India. Boarders are accommodated in the original cottages that Dr Graham built over a century ago.

The school is recognised as a Christian institution and Dr Graham’s legacy is the large number of children plucked out of poverty and given full scholarships. MET supports five children at any one time and it is a privilege to see these young people grasping their opportunity and lives being transformed. We are still in touch with our first two sponsored boys, pictured here with former MET chair Bob Jackson. Both boys are now in their thirties, in good jobs and happily married..
