Al Shurooq British Council International School Award

The Principal (pictured right) and the Academic Supervisor of the Al Shurooq School for the Blind in Bethlehem receiving this year’s British Council International School Award – congratulations from all at the MET.

Before Covid-19 struck Al Shurooq achieved first place in a competition to create educational games – staff designed and produced an interactive maths game to teach abstract concepts to visually impaired children.  Al Shurooq has also recently established a sensory room to be used in its therapeutic, rehabilitation and educational sessions.  This room was specially designed to deliver stimuli to various senses, using lighting effects, colours, sounds, music, scents, etc.  The combination of different materials on a wall may be explored using tactile senses, and the floor may be adjusted to stimulate the sense of balance.  Highly controlled environments are needed for visually impaired children to learn to use their residual vision.
