Projects

Bethany    The Lazarus Home for Girls and the Jeel al Amal Home for boys side by side in Bethany are visited by many pilgrim parties and we now have a regular monthly commitment of support to this work. For many pilgrims this is the highlight of their pilgrimage and as a result many churches are now firm supporters of this wonderful work. Bethany is now separated from Jerusalem by Israel’s security wall making life at the homes very difficult and our support more important than ever.

Bethlehem    In Bethlehem, Edmund Shehadeh is the director of the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation. BASR aims to enhance the overall quality of life for hundreds of disabled children and their families, helping them to integrate into society, to be independent and to live with respect and dignity. The alternative for these children would be a severely limited existence shut away from the world, and little hope for their parents.

Helen Shehadeh is Edmund’s sister and she is responsible for the wonderful work being done at the Al Shurooq School for visually  impared children, situated nearby. Pilgrim parties are made very welcome when they visit and the McCabe Educational Trust channels regular contributions to enable this remarkable family to continue their essential work in the most difficult of circumstances.

Sponsored Children    The Trust sponsors seven children: three in the Holyland and four in India. We correspond regularly and receive reports on their progress. Two of the children are at Dr. Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong in the Himalayas; two are at the James Harvey memorial school in Nwab Ganj on the plains of India; two are at the Talitha Kumi school in Bethlehem and one boy is at the Jeel al Amal school in Bethany.

Christmas Gift    The trust supports the indigenous Christian community of Jerusalem every Christmas with gifts of food parcels and assistance with school fees. Many Christians in the Holy Land feel isolated and live with severe financial pressures. Our gifts are a practical way for pilgrims to show their concern.

We welcome suggestions of worthy recipients of our help. If you would like to help an organisation you have met while on pilgrimage send us your donation with a covering letter.
